PADI TEC 40 CCR DIVER COURSE

The future of deep technical diving belongs to the CCR (closed circuit rebreather). The Tec 40 CCR course is where it all starts. If you are interested in technical diving and want to dive a rebreather, the PADI Tec 40 CCR course is for you!

Learn to plan and make dives using air diluent and air or enriched air (EANx) bailout gas on Type T (technical) closed-circuit rebreathers (CCR). You will be able to dive to a maximum of 40 metres/130 feet with a single decompression stop of no more than 10 minutes.

Tec 40 CCR Diver is the first level of training that addresses technical diving with Type T CCRs. This includes a range of electronic CCRs (eCCRs) and manual CCRS (mCCRs). The Tec 40 CCR Diver course introduces student divers to diagnosing life-support problems. Additionally, it teaches returning to the loop to complete the dive with limited decompression obligations. This training is significantly more challenging than recreational rebreather diving. This is because divers learn to be both a tec diver as well as learning to tec dive with a CCR.

Due to differences between CCRs, divers qualify on each CCRs. However, once qualified, you will not need to repeat the entire course if you want to learn to dive a different Type T CCR. The Tec 40 CCR Qualifier focuses on the knowledge and skills divers need to cross over from one Type T CCR to another.

Technical diving has been revolutionised by the development, availability and reliability of Closed Circuit Rebreathers. CCRs provide numerous benefits to the technical diver. Benefits include: reduced gas consumption, optimum EANx blends for decompression and a wider range of solutions to equipment problems.

Consequently, CCRs potentially allow the technical diver a greater access to time underwater. They allow greater time based on gas logistics when compared with an open circuit technical diver. They also allow more time available to find solutions to gas management problems. As time is a critical and finite resource, divers wanting to dive at and beyond the recreational envelope can now choose PADI Technical CCR training to achieve their goals.

WHAT WILL I DO

You will learn to make no stop or limited decompression dives using a Type T CCR, to a maximum depth of 40 metres/130 feet. You will do eight training dives.

You will also cover:

  • Basic CCR function
  • Tec equipment and CCR setup and checklists
  • Diving CCRs and handling potential problems
  • Decompression software and open-circuit bailout requirements
  • Post-dive procedures and disassembly
  • Thinking like a Tec CCR diver

WHAT GEAR WILL I NEED

You will use standard tec diving equipment appropriate for the local environment, including your exposure suit, mask, fins and weight system. You will also need a Delayed Surface Marker Buoy (DSMB) and spool, an audible surface signalling device, slate and a compass.

Your PADI Tec 40 CCR Instructor will advise you about the Type T CCR you will learn to use. Additionally, they will suggest a CCR dive computer with open-circuit bailout capability (if not integrated into the CCR), offboard life support system, and oxygen analyzer along with other beneficial gear.

After certification as a PADI Tec 40 CCR Diver, you will need to qualify if you want to use a different Type T CCR model because procedures vary with each model. However, you don't need to repeat the entire course. Just take a PADI Tec CCR Qualifier program that focuses on the knowledge and skills needed to use a different Type T CCR model.

Your instructor will make sure that all Type T CCRs used in PADI courses meet requirements.

All CCRs used on PADI TecRec CCR courses must be third party tested and manufacturers must ensure they meet a comprehensive list of requirements and register them with PADI.

PREREQUESITES

To take a Tec 40 CCR Diver course, you must:

  • Be a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver
  • Be a PADI Enriched Air Diver
  • Be a PADI Deep Diver or show proof of 10 dives to 30 metres/100 feet
  • Have a minimum of 30 logged dives, with at least 10 dives using EANx deeper than 18 metres/60 feet
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Before Training Dive 5, be certified as a PADI Rescue Diver
  • Before certification, have at least 50 logged dives

Note that qualifying certifications from other diver training organisations may apply - ask your Tec 40 CCR Instructor.
