TDI DECOMPRESSION PROCEDURES DIVER COURSE

The TDI Decompression Procedures Diver program qualifies divers to dive to 45m and to perform required decompression stops using a single gas mixture (unless they also hold the Advanced Nitrox Diver certification).

WHAT DO I NEED TO START

  • TDI Advanced Nitrox Diver (or qualifying certification from another organisation)
  • Have a minimum of 50 logged dives
  • Be 18 years of age
  • Appropriate theory for the course. This can be assigned to you on payment of the deposit.

WHAT WILL I DO

You will complete the TDI Decompression Procedures theory with your instructor, including content on oxygen exposure tracking for technical and accelerated gas switch dives, equipment setup configuration, physiology decompression as well as a gas switch decompression dive planning workshop. You will then move to our 5.5m indoor heated pool (or a suitable confined water site abroad) where you will learn the skills required to safely conduct decompression, and gas switch dives using a twinset, and stage cylinder.

This session also gives you the perfect opportunity to put the equipment changes made in the workshop to the test. The TDI Decompression Procedures diver program culminates in 4 open water dives, during which you will demonstrate your ability to safely conduct at least four decompression dives to a maximum depth of 45 meters, including a switch to a rich nitrox mix to accelerate your required decompression.

On each these dives, you will carry out the drills which technical diving makes possible, including shutdowns that enable you to deal with catastrophic gas loss in a safe manner and end your dive in a controlled manner. In doing so you will be becoming a self-sufficient diver able to deal with buddy separation and/or equipment malfunctions. Completion of the course requires passing the TDI Decompression Procedures diver exam.

WHAT'S NEXT

For holders of the TDI Advanced Nitrox and Decompression Procedures, your next step is the TDI Trimix Diver program. This qualifies divers to perform dives outside of training to depths up to 60m while using helium-based breathing mixtures (with at least 18% oxygen) to reduce the END to a maximum 40m and to perform required decompression stops using any mixture of EANx up to 100% oxygen.
